- Job Title: Director of Nursing Department: Nursing / Senior
LivingPosition Summary:The Director of Nursing (DON) is a key
leadership role responsible for overseeing all clinical operations
within the senior living community, including assisted living and
memory care units. The DON ensures that all residents receive the
highest standard of care while promoting a compassionate and
supportive environment for staff and residents alike. This position
involves managing nursing staff, maintaining compliance with state
and federal regulations, and driving quality improvement
initiatives across the community.Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management of Nursing Staff: Provide direct
leadership to the nursing team, ensuring that all staff are
properly trained, supported, and motivated to deliver exceptional
resident care.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all nursing operations
comply with applicable state and federal regulations, particularly
in areas like infection control, medication administration, and
resident care plans.
- Develop and Oversee Care Plans: Work collaboratively with
healthcare providers, families, and residents to create
individualized care plans that meet the unique needs of each
resident, especially in assisted living and memory care
settings.
- Quality Assurance and Improvement: Lead initiatives to improve
clinical outcomes, resident satisfaction, and overall quality of
care. Monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions
as needed.
- Budget Management: Collaborate with executive leadership to
manage nursing department budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of
resources while maintaining quality care.
- Staff Development and Training: Oversee orientation, ongoing
training, and professional development for nursing staff. Ensure
that the team is current with best practices, new technology, and
changes in long-term care regulations.
- Resident and Family Communication: Act as a key liaison between
residents, families, and healthcare providers, ensuring that
concerns are addressed promptly and that residents' well-being is
prioritized.
- Crisis Management: Take the lead in managing health
emergencies, ensuring the safety of residents and staff while
coordinating appropriate care interventions.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work with other departments,
including activities, dining, and social services, to ensure a
holistic approach to resident care.Qualifications:
- Active RN License
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing management experience in
long-term care or senior living settings, including assisted living
or memory care.
- Proven leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to
lead and inspire nursing teams.
- Experience in Long-Term Care Nursing, ideally in senior living,
assisted living, and memory care environments.
- Strong understanding of state and federal regulations related
to senior living and long-term care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively
interact with residents, families, staff, and healthcare
professionals.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with the
ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced
environment.Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing nursing teams in senior living or memory
care.
- Certification in Geriatric Nursing or other relevant
credentials.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and care
